Lucas

This is our son Lucas. He is currently 18 months old. He was born at 30 weeks weighing 3 pounds, 1 ounce. He was taken straight to the NICU. It was a very hard time that followed. I had so many thoughts and emotions that I couldn’t think straight. He was in the NICU for 67 days. It was very hard going home when I was discharged without my baby.

Thankfully Lucas has not had any medical conditions. He was born healthy, just a little early. He has grown into a smart, funny and amazing little boy. Despite hitting his milestones a little late, he still hits them! I am so thankful to have him here because even though we got to take our baby home, we know there were a few who were not so lucky. If it wasn’t for the NICU nurses at Mercy One Medical Center in Des Moines, IA, I would not have been able to get through this experience.
