Volunteer

The meaning of life is to find your gift.  The purpose of life is to give it away.

~William Shakespeare

Volunteers are the backbone of our organization and have made our programs possible.  By generously giving their time, energy, and heart to our cause, more of the dollars donated to our foundation can be used to directly benefit the families we serve.  Below are the projects that are in need of volunteers.

Meals for Moms & Dads

We provide 24 meals each year to Blank Children’s Hospital and Mercy Medical Center.  Typically, we are in need of hosts for each meal. However, due to COVID-19 restrictions, we are unable to accommodate volunteers at this time.

Tiny Hearts

Tiny Hearts are given to mothers whose newborn infants have been admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).  This fabric heart is worn against the mother’s skin, inside clothing, so that the fabric absorbs the scent of the mother.  The heart is then placed with the baby in the isolette to bring comfort to the baby from the familiar scent of Mom which calms the baby.  These can be made from the comfort of your home and mailed to us for distribution.

Special Projects

Special Projects are events and occasions that are important to the preemie and NICU community. We provide special outreach to our NICU families on these dates and are looking for volunteers to coordinate our outreach.  This would involve working with other volunteers to identify what to do for each event, plan, and execute the event.

Examples of special events and occasions are listed below:

  • Parents of Preemies Day

  • Mother’s Day

  • Father’s Day

  • Neonatal Nurse’s Day

  • World Prematurity Day
